After the Fire: RCAR’s Shawne Davis Shares Gratitude for SRH Team’s Generosity and Support

The Davis home suffered a terrible fire in February.

Shawne Davis, BSN, RN, has worked at UM SRH for 17 years, starting as a per diem tech, then a bedside RN on the Requard Center for Acute Rehabilitation (RCAR), where she was later promoted to admission liaison and now serves as nurse manager. She shared the following story about the love, compassion and support that she received from many SRH team members when her home suffered a serious fire:

Shawne and her husband, John, last summer.

“Immediately — as I was literally running out of the hospital after my husband called to me tell the house was on fire — I called another nurse manager to cover my unit for me and told her very briefly what was going on and why I had to leave. This occurred about 2 p.m. By 5 or 6 p.m., that nurse manager was at my house with a bags of clothes, toiletries, and shoes for my husband and myself. Within a day, I had calls and texts and donations from many more — not just from my team members on Requard and Comprehensive Rehabilitation Services, but from those working in other departments as well. I have not yet gotten the list of names and departments that have poured out to me and I will thank them each when/if I ever find out. But I do want to say a great big THANK YOU to all of the people from all of the departments who have donated, reached out and prayed for my and my family as we have gone through a devastating loss. We will rebuild and we will be all right, and some of that is because of the love and support that I have received from the many people who make up SRH.”
