Daisy Award Winners Announced

Congratulations to Daisy Award winners Shannon Temple, BSN, RN, FNE A/P (January) and Debra Van Dyke, MSN, RN (March)!

Shannon Temple, BSN, RN, FNE A/P

An outstanding, professional, committed nurse, Shannon Temple took over the role of  Shore Regional Health Forensic Nurse Coordinator and jumped right in. While losing sleep and time with her family, she manages to put the patients that are victims of sexual abuse first, always with a smile, and kind word. Community partners – including the Child Advocacy Centers, police, state’s attorney, For All Seasons staff and others —  have expressed utmost respect for Shannon and enjoy working with her. Forensics is a specialty.  It is difficult to keep forensic nurses active and skilled in a small rural area but Shannon’s commitment ensures this happens in our five-county region and makes her an excellent candidate for the DAISY Award.

Debra Van Dyke, MSN, RN

Debra Van Dyke, MSN, RN, Shore Behavioral Health, is widely credited by patients as the reason they feel safe, accepted and cared for during their stay. She provides exceptional group leadership, taking time to educate patients and interacting with them in her down-to-earth manner. She is recognized for her dedication to  patients for being a team player, providing detailed feedback to others and ensuring that safety issues are addressed and resolved. She also shares her knowledge as a mentor to others and as a preceptor. Post-COVID restrictions, Debra set up numerous outings to encourage team building. Outside of work, she is an RN in the Navy Reserves, attending monthly drills and serving on multiple deployments throughout her career. Her commitment to her patients, peers, family and country make her an outstanding choice for the DAISY Award.

Leigh Mingos, RN, was honored as the February DAISY Award winner — her Compass write-up can be read here: https://shorecompass.org/2023/03/20/mingos-wins-february-daisy-award/

As part of winning the DAISY award, Van Dyke, Temple and Mingos will be nationally recognized on the DAISY website. They also receive certificates, a DAISY pin, and a “Healer’s Touch” Statue. As tradition holds, the winners and their team members are treated to cinnamon rolls.
