UMMS Offering Second Boosters to Eligible Team Members

As COVID-19 vaccine guidance evolves, the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) is continuing to offer additional vaccine doses to eligible team members through our local hospitals. Recently, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommended an additional booster dose with an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine for certain individuals to increase protection against severe illness, hospitalization and death.

The following groups are now eligible for a second booster, at least four months after receiving their first booster:

  • People ages 50 and older, regardless of which vaccine they received for their primary vaccination and first booster
  • People ages 12 and older who are moderately to severely immunocompromised
  • People ages 18 to 49 who received the Johnson & Johnson (J&J) vaccine for both their primary vaccination and first booster

Starting this week, team members who fall into one of the eligibility groups above may schedule an appointment for a second booster dose by following the instructions below.

Schedule Through Your Local Hospital:

Team members can make an appointment at the hospital most convenient to them, using the same process you would use to schedule your first booster.

  • Go to intra.umms.org/EmployeeVax and click the link that says, “Booster Doses.”
  • Read the information and confirm you are eligible to receive a second booster.
  • Find your desired hospital under “Make an Appointment” and follow the instructions to schedule your vaccination.

Schedule Through the MyPortfolio Patient Portal:

Team members with a MyPortfolio account may schedule directly through the portal.

  • Go to myportfolio.umm.edu to log into your account.
  • From the menu, click on “Schedule an Appointment.”
  • Click “Employees of University of Maryland Medical System.”
  • Read the instructions and answer a few questions to confirm that you are eligible to receive a second booster.
  • Once you confirm, you will be able to select a location and make an appointment.

As a reminder, UMMS is also continuing to offer first booster appointments to all eligible team members. If you have not yet received your COVID-19 booster shot, we encourage you to make an appointment today. If you received your booster outside UMMS, please click here to submiallt documentation, so we can update our records.

Thank you for your ongoing commitment to creating a safe environment for our patients, visitors and each other.
