Burleson Leads Maryland Health Care Executives Organization

Scott D. Burleson, executive director, University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Chestertown, is serving as president of The Maryland Association of Health Care Executives (MAHCE).
Founded in 1973 as the local chapter of the American College of Health Care Executives (AHCE), MAHCE provides a forum for professional development and interchange among senior-level health care executives. The organization’s membership includes hospital and other health care facility executives, healthcare consultants and students in health care administration programs. MAHCE offers professional development and advancement opportunities through its health care education programs, meetings and conferences, including the MAHCE Fellows training and examination program.
In April, MAHCE offered an educational program in collaboration with the Health Leadership Network of the Delaware Valley in Salisbury, Maryland that brought health care leaders together to discuss “Improving the Health Status of Your Community.” The Maryland panel discussed the state’s opioid crisis and how it is being addressed at various levels of government and society.
In May, at Medstar Harbor Hospital, MAHCE offered the Board of Governors Exam prep course for 24 AHCE members who reviewed topics and exam questions with existing Fellows of MAHCE.
Burleson who has served UM Shore Regional Health and the Chestertown hospital in various administrative capacities since 2006, holds a bachelor’s degree in public health from Johns Hopkins University and a master of business administration specializing in hospital administration from the University of Chicago. He is a fellow of the ACHE and twice received the Senior Executive Award (2005 and 2011) from MAHCE.
