University of Maryland Memorial Hospital Foundation will host an informative seminar, “What is Advanced Care Planning and Why it is So Important” on Saturday, April 22 from 10 a.m. until noon at the UM Shore Medical Pavilion at Easton, Conference Room, located at 500 Cadmus Lane.
This informational seminar will explore the difference between Medical Orders for Life Sustaining Treatment (MOLST) and Advanced Directives, how to communicate your wishes through your Advanced Directive and understanding the Maryland MOLST form; who needs one and why?
Guest presenters will be Kimberly Fogle, MSW, LCSW-C, palliative care social worker, UM Shore Regional Health Palliative Care and Elizabeth Todd, MS, BSN, RN I-V, CRRN, nurse navigator, UM Shore Regional Health Comprehensive Rehabilitation.
Fogle brings more than three decades of experience in retirement communities, sub-acute nursing and rehabilitation centers, and inpatient and home hospice programs to her role on the UM Shore Regional Health Palliative Care team. Her commitment to patients’ rights in making their own health decisions and her understanding of how serious illness affects not only the individual, but the entire family make her a key resource to patients and their loved ones.
Todd is a Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse with twenty plus years of experience in acute and outpatient nursing. She currently serves as nurse navigator for UM Shore Comprehensive Rehabilitation and has been a member of the Patient Care Advisory Committee at UM Shore Regional Health for fourteen years, currently serving as co-chair. Todd obtained a foundation and impetus towards medical ethics; building on her strong clinical background and passion for advocacy. She is a natural fit in the world of bioethics in medicine and ethics consultation.
