UM Shore Medical Center at Chestertown Hosts First Receiver Course

On Thursday, May 16, UM Shore Medical Center at Chestertown hosted a First Receiver class thanks in part to the Hospital Preparedness Program (HPP) funding from the Maryland Hospital Association (MHA).

The class was taught by hazardous materials specialists from Cervitas Solutions. The course curriculum focused on best practices in managing victims from chemical, biological and radiological events. Numerous UM SRH staff were in attendance, along with multiple community partners from the Chestertown Fire Department, Kent County Emergency Medical Services, Kent and Queen Anne’s Rescue Squad, Queen Anne’s County Health Department, and MHA.

UM SRH Emergency Management intends to provide similar training opportunities for clinical and support staff, going forward. UM SRH Emergency Management is extremely grateful for all who attended and assisted with implementing the training.

More opportunities for all staff to participate in first receiver training will be prioritized moving forward.

Funding offered by the Maryland Hospital Association helped support a First Receiver class, taught by hazardous materials specialists from Cervitas Solutions, and hosted at UM Shore Medical Center at Chestertown. Numerous UM SRH team members and local community and emergency services agencies were in attendance.
