What is the RISE program?
RISE is a peer support program offered to SRH team members that promotes resilience after a stressful work-related encounter. RISE Peer responders offer emotional support to any SRH team member by allowing them to talk about the troubling situation in a timely and non-judgmental, confidential manner.
Why do we need a RISE program?
Working in healthcare can be stressful. Have you, or anyone you know, experienced a work-related event which was stressful, possibly causing you to re-live or re-think about the experience, have difficulty thinking clearly or question your ability to do your job effectively? (Some examples include: death of a patient, pediatric related event, patient fall, or workplace violence)
What is a RISE Peer Responder?
RISE Peer Responders are volunteers from a variety of disciplines (nurses, medical providers, social workers, administrative personnel, etc.) who are there to listen and foster the team member’s ability to cope with the stressor.
Peer responders are provided 8 hours of training that provides an overview of the RISE program and helps them develop the skills needed to aid team members who need emotional support after a stressful event.
How do I reach out to a RISE Responder?
There are several ways to reach a RISE responder. First, you can use the RISE badge buddy that all UM SRH team members have been given (pictured below). If you don’t have one you can obtain one from HR. You can also use the QR code found on RISE flyers that have been circulated. There is also a Resiliency in Stressful Events (RISE) page found under Staff Quick Links in the SRH Intranet. If you are reading this and need a RISE responder, use the link below.

Interested in becoming a Peer Responder or want to learn more?
It only takes a few moments of your time to help another team member in need. RISE responders have reported feeling enhanced satisfaction and fulfillment after helping another team member who is in distress.
SRH recruits new responders at least once a year. If interested in becoming a peer responder or if you have questions about the RISE program, email srhrise@umm.edu. You can also find more information about how to apply to become a Peer Responder on the SRH Intranet under Staff Quick Links – Resilience in Stressful Events (RISE).
