Brent J. Bauer, MD has been named Interim Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer by University of Maryland Shore Regional Health (UM SRH). In this role, Dr. Bauer will work closely with the UM SRH medical staff, administration and Board of Directors during a nation-wide search to replace William E. Huffner, MD, MBA, FACEP, FACHE, who will retire effective June 28, 2024.
Dr. Bauer currently serves as chairman of the Department of Orthopedics and Orthopedic Trauma Medical Director at University of Maryland Capital Region Health. He is also an Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. An experienced High Reliability Organization leader, Dr. Bauer has served as a Guiding Team Physician Liaison and a Senior Leader Academy Coach as part of UMMS’ initiative toward becoming a High Reliability Organization.
“Brent’s familiarity with the University of Maryland Medical System and his knowledge of High Reliability Organization principles will be beneficial to UM SRH,” said UM SRH President and CEO Ken Kozel. “We look forward to his service and leadership as we search for a permanent chief medical officer.’
Dr. Bauer will officially join UM SRH on Monday, May 27, 2024.
