According to Tawes Harper, Site Coordinator – Pharmacy, FY2024 saw renewed success across Shore Regional Health in reducing the number of healthcare-associated Clostridiodes difficile (C. diff) infections throughout our inpatient units in SMC at Chestertown and SMC at Easton.
“Minimizing the incidence of C. diff cases is part of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and National Healthcare Safety Network’s (NHSN) initiatives for healthcare facilities to provide safe and effective patient care,” Hawes said. “This is because inappropriate antibiotic use and lack of adherence to proper infection prevention measures (such as hand hygiene and isolation procedures) lead to increases in C. diff cases, which in turn leads to worsened patient outcomes and increased lengths of stay. We appreciate the efforts by multiple disciplines to work together to improve patient care throughout Shore Regional Health.”
