Dear Colleagues,
Independence Day and our country’s revolutionary story is one many of us know by heart. How our forefathers came together to fight for independence from Great Britain to give us the freedoms we enjoy today, including the rights famously mentioned in the Declaration of Independence of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
It’s important that we all take some time over this special holiday weekend to think about and be grateful for the freedoms we have. Such freedoms are not universal, and are something to be treasured.
The same is true with spending time with family and friends. July 4th is known for cookouts, fireworks, parades and showing our pride in our country, and I hope all of you get to spend some well-deserved time with the people you care about.
The University of Maryland Medical System, like our country, is made up of a group of strong and unique member organizations who have recognized that by coming together as one, we can accomplish so much more for those that we serve. As we start our new fiscal year, we look forward to advancing our key priorities, including our high reliability journey to zero harm. This and other priorities in our Strategic Plan will give our System the tools we need to grow and improve our operations and culture to better meet the needs of our team members, patients and communities.
As we honor America, I want to recognize and thank you for the work you do every day. We are all grateful for your dedication and service. And a special note of thanks to team members working on July 4th to care for patients and keep our System running smoothly.
Sincerely,
Mohan Suntha, MD, MBA
