Approximately 200 cancer survivors and their guests enjoyed a crab feast hosted by the Cancer Program at UM Shore Regional Health on Sunday, June 2, at the Talbot County Agricultural Center. The event was held in celebration of National Cancer Survivors Day, observed annually on June 6.

“It was a perfect day and the turnout was fantastic,” said Jeanie Scott, Director of Oncology Services and the Clark Comprehensive Breast Center. “It is always a treat for Cancer Program staff to reconnect with patients we may not have seen for months or years, as well as those still in treatment or participating in various survivorship programs we offer, such as support groups, the wig room, or one-on-one assistance from our nurse navigators and social workers. There is tremendous camaraderie among cancer survivors and the family and friends who support them on their journey — sharing that spirit over a generous serving of Maryland’s finest hard shell crabs was really special.”

Scott also credited Lindy’s Seafood, Bay Imprint and Robin Lewis for supporting the event.

The Cancer Program at UM Shore Regional Health treats more than 800 patients annually, most from the five county region served by UM SRH, but others from Delaware and the lower Eastern Shore.
