Eleven UM SRH nurses attended the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) Maryland 2024 Section Conference thanks to a Nurse Support Program 1 grant. The conference was held April 17 at the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club in Stevensville.
AWHONN’s mission is to empower and support nurses caring for women, newborns and their families through research, education and advocacy. This year’s conference topics included maternal mental health, maternal sepsis, breastfeeding for HIV-positive patients, legalization of cannabis in Maryland and documentation of perinatal settings.
“The conference provided a wonderful day of education, networking and support,” said Jessica Genrich, MBA, RNC-OB, Director, Women and Children’s Services. “We felt very lucky that Shore Regional Health could have such wonderful representation during this conference.”
Funded by the Health Services Cost Review Commission (HSCRC) for the education and advancement of nurses, the Nurse Support Program 1 grant assists nursing team members in advancing their education, from RN degrees to advanced nursing degrees, and also provides support for team members to attend conferences and workshops to further their education in their specialty field.
“It is exciting to seeing nurses grow and shine in our organization,” said Pamela Pardun, Nursing Support Program Specialist.
“I loved being in attendance at the recent AWHONN Conference with so many other Labor and Delivery nurses, nurse educators and nurse administrators from across the state,” said Pam Callahan, RN. “To share innovation and novel ideas with like-minded nurses who strive to deliver the best evidenced-based care to all of the child-bearing population of Maryland is such a wonderful experience! My heart and mind are full!”
