Nicholas Tindall of Easton unveiled his artwork during a reception at UM Shore Medical Pavilion at Denton on March 13. Tindall’s oil painting was commissioned as part of the Health Care Heroes mural project, which was supported in part by Kent County’s Hedgelawn Foundation and the Community Arts Development program of the Maryland State Arts Council, which receives financial support from the National Endowment for the Arts.
The project was spearheaded by John Schratwieser, Director of the Kent Cultural Alliance, and Kelly Strannahan, Patient Experience Manager at UM Shore Regional Health (UM SRH). Schratwieser and Strannahan coordinated the commissioning of artwork with arts councils in Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne’s and Talbot counties, and provided each artist a $1,250 stipend. This past October, four other murals were unveiled during UM SRH team member post-COVID luncheons and later installed at UM Shore Medical Pavilion at Cambridge, UM Shore Medical Center at Chestertown, UM Shore Medical Pavilion at Queenstown and UM Shore Medical Center at Easton.
The artwork honors the commitment of UM SRH team members and health care workers to the communities UM SRH serves in a meaningful and permanent way. The Denton artwork is installed in the first floor lobby of the medical pavilion and centers around the impact that home health care workers made during the COVID-19 pandemic.
