ChoiceOneLogo_partner_w_UMSRH_hor2University of Maryland Shore Regional Health and ChoiceOne Urgent Care have entered into an agreement to open and operate two urgent care centers on the Eastern Shore. The first center—located at 8 Denton Plaza in Denton—will open its doors to patients in late May. The second center is anticipated to open in Easton by fall 2016.

ChoiceOne healthcare providers treat patients—from pediatrics to geriatrics—who need immediate medical care, but their illness and injury might not warrant a visit the emergency room. For instance, a patient can visit urgent care for colds, broken bones, earaches, headaches, infections, flu, lacerations nausea/upset stomach, sprains and cuts. Patients should visit the emergency room if they are experiencing symptoms such as abdominal/chest pain, heart palpitations/attack, loss of vision, severe burns, shortness of breath or uncontrollable bleeding.

“The healing process begins when a patient walks into ChoiceOne Urgent Care,” added Dr. Scott Burger, chief medical officer at ChoiceOne. “We bridge the gap between short-term medical needs and a long-term medical provider relationship with a UM SRH primary or specialty care provider.”

ChoiceOne is working in close collaboration with UM SRH leadership to ensure that the patient and staff transition process is as seamless as possible. University of Maryland Community Medical Group – Primary Care providers, Katherine Cook, MD, Kim Herman, MD and Wafik Zaki, MD, will continue to see their primary care patients at the 5th Avenue location.
