UM SRH Cancer Center Welcomes New Volunteer

Mike Sheidt

Easton resident Mike Scheidt is one of the newest volunteers of the Auxiliary of Memorial Hospital at Easton. Mike volunteers at UM Shore Regional Health Cancer Center on Idlewild Avenue assisting patients both before and after their treatments. The Cancer Center sees approximately 60 patients a day for both radiation and chemotherapy.
Scheidt, who is a cancer survivor himself, moved to Easton 11 years ago from northern Virginia where he spent his working career in communications engineering. After retiring and moving to Easton he decided to devote some of his time volunteering. Scheidt’s duties at the Cancer Center include assisting the medical staff in preparing for patient appointments and offering comfort to patients and their families.
“I like working at the Cancer Center because I want to give back to my community and also to try to help cancer patients and their families as they receive treatment,” says Sheidt. “I know from personal experience how it feels to receive a cancer diagnosis and what some patients are going through; I try to help in any way I can to make their day as pleasant as possible.”
“We are delighted to welcome Mike to the Auxiliary and hope that more of our local retirees will consider volunteering their time with us. It’s a great way to help others and also to meet new people while supporting the advancement of health care in our community,” says Art Cecil, president of the Auxiliary of Memorial Hospital at Easton.
