Spring 2016 Team Member Forum Summary

Team-StrengthTeam members of University of Maryland Shore Regional Health recently participated in Team Member Forums hosted by Ken Kozel, president and CEO.
During the forums – held throughout the region at various UM Shore Regional Health locations – the following topics were discussed:
Strategic Plan:

  • Review of the mission and vision
  • Discussion surrounding the Patient Experience, a UM SRH initiative to have all team members focus more on a patient’s perception of the care provided at UM SRH inpatient and outpatient locations; quality and safety; and team member accountability.

Benefits:

  • Open enrollment will run from May 2-15
  • “Passive enrollment” meaning that team members will only need to update if there are changes or if enrolling in a new FSA
  • Changes include:
    • Domestic partners will no longer be covered
    • Precertification will be required for MRI/CT
    • Pharmacy provider changing to CVS Caremark
    • There will be employee contribution increases across the UMMS system
  • Payroll will “go green” effective June 3 as paper paystubs will no longer be provided

Service Delivery Plan:

  • Service Delivery Council has been assessing which services provided by UM Shore Regional Health are needed in which locations throughout the region.
  • Pending UM Shore Regional Health Board approval, application for a “replacement hospital” for UM SMC at Easton is being developed with plans to submit application to MHCC in early fall.

UM Shore Regional Health Update:

  • The second phase of UM Shore Medical Pavilion at Easton – 500 Cadmus Lane – is opening to patients on April 19. The Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting will be held on May 5. Specialties include primary care, pulmonary care, pediatrics, wound care, cardiology and cardiovascular diagnostics, and surgical care.
  • Renovation of the Diagnostic and Imaging Center will conclude in early June. The Clark Comprehensive Breast Center will open at this expanded location the second week of May.
  • Shore Regional Health has partnered with ChoiceOne Urgent Care to open new urgent care centers in Denton (opening May 25) and Easton (opening in fall 2016). The Denton location will be near Wal-Mart and will be replacing the services currently offered at UM Shore Convenient Care at Denton. The primary care providers will still see primary care patients at the current location.
  • Shore Regional Health has obtained approval from the State of Maryland to be a PCI Center, which will offer stent placement on an emergent and elective basis. Two interventional cardiologists are being recruited and two PCI labs are being developed. This service will be available in early 2017.
