On July 19 and July 25, the Safe Lifting and Movement (SLAM) Committee “hit the road” in and around the four main campuses of UM Shore Regional Health with a Sling Road Show .  Members of this committee visited both inpatient and outpatient areas to provide hands-on demonstrations and discussion of the various slings available to prevent injuries as well as optimize patient comfort during transfers and patient handling.
According to Teresa Blem, The Sling Road Show was eye-opening to staff and produced a lot of feedback to ensure quality care and safety.
Hydraulica’s Tip of the Month – August 2017
Use your arms, legs, and core body (abdominal muscles) to lift, not your back. This includes bending your knees to pick up something, instead of bending from your waist. Maintain proper posture and don’t arch your back. (See illustration below.)
