Scott D. Burleson has been named executive director, University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Chestertown, Ken Kozel, president and CEO of UM Shore Regional Health, has announced. In this capacity and as a member of the UM SRH senior leadership team, Burleson will oversee the hospital’s day-to-day operations and act as primary liaison and collaborator to ensure its optimal participation in local, regional and system health care services, programs and activities. He will assume his new duties on May 30, 2016.
Burleson has served UM Shore Regional Health and the Chestertown hospital in various administrative capacities since 2006, most recently as regional director, facilities planning and projects. He has 25 years of experience in hospital operations and project management, including physician recruitment, construction and renovation, property management, and budget development and oversight.
Burleson’s holds a bachelor’s degree in public health from Johns Hopkins University and a master of business administration specializing in hospital administration from the University of Chicago. He is a fellow of the American College of Health Care Executives and a member of the Maryland Hospital Association’s PRIME Board of Directors. He also twice received the Senior Executive Award (2005 and 2011) from the Maryland Association of Healthcare Executives, on whose board he now serves as president-elect.
Well known in Kent County, Burleson been a member of the County’s Behavioral Health Council (2006-14), its Economic Development Advisory Board (2008-14) and the Rotary Club of Chestertown (2006-present), for which he served two years as president. He is chair of the Pastor-Parish Relations Committee of Olivet United Methodist Church in Galena and is a Lieutenant Colonel in the Maryland Defense Force.
