Salute to SANE Nurses During Sexual Assault Awareness Month

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. This year, the theme is “Embrace Your Voice” with focus on the following tenets: Believe Survivors, End Victim Blaming, Ask for Consent and Respect Boundaries.

To be come a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE), registered nurses must take a Sexual Assault Examiner Class comprised of 40 hours of classroom training, followed by an average of 40 hours of clinical training.

Thanks for their important work in this field are due to UM Shore Regional Health’s SANE nurses who provide examinations and care for patients who have experienced sexual assault at UM Shore Medical Centers at Chestertown, Dorchester and Easton. They are: Stephanie Blades, Leslie Collier, Karen Denny, Jessica Fluharty, Helen Foxwell, Marcia Shapiro and Shannon Temple. Currently in training for SANE certification are Tiana Miller-Breland, Jami Post, Carol Rogers, Trish Rosenberry, Kim Seward, Megan Stubbs and Stacy Thomas.
