Robin Hood Shop Receives $75,000 Gift from Robbins Foundation Trust

The Auxiliary of Dorchester General Hospital has announced that The Robin Hood Shop has received a generous contribution toward the construction of the shop’s recently completed furniture showroom. The Pauline F. and W. David Robbins Charitable Foundation Trust committed a total of $75,000 toward the project to be awarded over the next three years.
Polly and Dave were born in Dorchester County, attended schools in South Dorchester, and lived in Robbins, Maryland, during their early married life. In 1953, the couple relocated to Cambridge where Dave and his nephew began a construction business, Robbins and Robbins Hardware and Building Supply Company. Polly was employed at The Daily Banner as circulation manager for 30 years. In later years, Dave became quite successful investing in the stock market.
The Robbins Foundation Trust was established in accordance with the couple’s wills after Polly, the last survivor, passed in 2011.The current trustees of the Foundation state that their purpose is “to enrich the lives of the citizens of Dorchester County” and that their mission is “to see that Dorchester County, its citizens and the ‘Shore’ way of life reap the benefits of such a generous gift.”
“The Robin Hood Shop is honored to have been deemed worthy of this donation,” said Cathy Gullion, shop manager. “A plaque will soon be placed on the new addition in recognition of this gift and to give credit to the Pauline F. and W. David Robbins Charitable Foundation Trust.”
Operated by the Dorchester General Hospital Auxiliary for the benefit of programs, equipment, services and patient care at University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Dorchester, the Robin Hood Shop is located at 416 High Street in Cambridge. The shop offers gently used men, women and children’s clothing, fashion accessories, jewelry, a variety of household items and furniture as well as toys and books. Donations are accepted during Shop hours, which are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
