Process Continues to Replace Shore Medical Center at Easton

Access-to-Care
University of Maryland Shore Regional Health will be moving ahead in September to update its docketed Certificate of Need (CON) application with the Maryland Health Care Commission (MHCC) for a replacement hospital for Easton. This action follows gaining the necessary approvals to move forward by the Shore Regional Health Board and University of Maryland Medical System Financial Affairs and Strategy Committee. The updated application, like the original one filed in 2012,  reflects a replacement of our Easton hospital and does not include beds or shelled space for beds from either UM SMC at Dorchester or UM SMC at Chestertown.
The MHCC’s decision, and subsequent determinations by the Health Services Cost Review Commission (HSCRC), are anticipated to take a year or more before being rendered.  With anticipated approvals from our State healthcare agencies, and factoring in time for construction firm selection, permitting, infrastructure and construction, a Summer 2022 opening is projected.
We will keep you informed as the CON progresses. Thanks to all who have provided input and support as we approached this milestone and to all who will be involved as we progress toward achieving our vision of being the region’s leader in patient centered healthcare.
