It Pays to Know Good People: Referral Bonus Program Announced

Team-Strength
Do you know someone who might be a good addition to the University of Maryland Shore Regional Health team?
UM Shore Regional Health’s Human Resources is reinvigorating a program to reward SRH employees who actively participate in the recruitment of qualified applicants for certain positions, Susan Coe, VP for Human Resources has announced.
“We all have friends and neighbors who possess the qualities we value in a co-worker, and this program, ‘It Pays to Know Good People,’  encourages UM Shore Regional team members to take action and encourage those individuals to apply for positions that would be a good fit for them,” says Coe.  “The program focuses on positions for which qualified candidates seem to be in short supply and offers generous rewards to employees referring qualified applicants who are ultimately hired for certain  hot positions.”

It Pays to Know Good People is a new referral bonus program that rewards UM SRH employees who help recruit qualifed candidates to selected positions within the organization.
It Pays to Know Good People is a new referral bonus program that rewards UM SRH employees who help recruit qualified candidates to selected positions within the organization.

The reward is a bonus: $2,000 for referring a candidate who is hired for a full-time position (36 hours per week or more); or, $1,000 for referring a candidate who is hired for a part-time position (20-35 hours per week). According to Coe, positions currently included in “It Pays to Know Good People” are:
RN (direct patient care only and excluding positions open to new graduates)
Pharmacist
Physical Therapist
Respiratory Therapist
Social Worker (Behavioral Health)
*PLEASE NOTE: Human Resources reserves the right to add or remove positions as needs         change.
UM Shore Regional Health management staff (i.e., managers, directors and higher positions) are not eligible to receive a referral bonus but all other employees may do so by following the requirements of the program, which are outlined in the FAQ below:
How do I ensure that I am documented as the referring employee for an applicant? Advise the individual to be SURE to include your name on the application form where indicated PRIOR to submitting his or her application top UM SRH; applicants cannot indicate a referring employee once the application has been submitted. Also, if more than one name is listed only the first person named will be eligible for the bonus.
If I refer a person for one of the designated positions and that individual is hired, when will I receive the bonus? You will receive half of the referral bonus ($1,000) following your referral’s completion of 90 days of employment. The remaining $1,000 of the referral bonus will be paid when he or she has been employed by UM SRH for one year.
Will I still receive the bonus if the person I refer doesn’t remain employed at UM SRH for one year? You will be entitled to keep any bonus already paid to you (i.e., the $1,000 bonus paid after 90 days), but will not be eligible to receive the remaining portion of the referral bonus if the individual is not employed at UM SRH for one full year.
Can I refer more than one person for one or more positions? And if so, can I receive multiple referral bonuses? Yes, there is no limit on the number of candidates you can refer or the number of bonuses you can receive.
Can I refer a family member and still be eligible for the bonus? Yes, however, the referring family member may not have influence or be a decision-maker in the hire.  HR reserves the right to decline referrals made by family members.
If I refer someone who used to work here, will I still be eligible for the bonus? Yes, provided the referred individual has not worked at UM SRH for one year or more since his or her date of separation. (If the individual has applied as the result of another recruitment program, HR reserves the right to decline an employee referral.)
Will the referral bonus be taxed? Yes, the referral bonus will be taxed at the same rate as all other supplemental wages.
If the person I refer drops below the 0.5 FTE requirement within the first year, will I still receive the bonus? If the individual drops below 0.5 FTE after the first 90 days of employment but before his or her first year of employment is complete, you will not be eligible to receive the second half ($1,000 or $500) of the referral bonus.
What if an employee I refer moves from part-time to full-time or vice versa?  In either case you will be appropriately compensated. The amount will be prorated and adjusted based on the new work schedule and commitment.
Why is UM SRH offering this referral bonus? It has become increasingly difficult to find qualified candidates in our market. We believe that our talented employees are our best resource to identify other skilled health care professionals, and we want to reward you for doing so. The referral bonus program is just one of the ways we are enhancing our house-wide recruitment efforts.
