Infusion Clinic Volunteer Recognized for Over 5,500 Volunteer Hours

Nancy Schmidt, infusion clinic volunteer, was recently recognized for volunteering more than 5,500 hours at UM Shore Medical Center at Chestertown. She was presented a with a bouquet of flowers, a gift certificate and nine additional “gold stars” to add to the two currently on her volunteer smock. Each gold star represents  500 hours of service. Schmidt was the first volunteer to serve in the Caroline A. Bramble Infusion Clinic, previously known as the Caroline A. Bramble Chemotherapy Treatment Center, when it was established in 1995. The Center’s founder, David A. Bramble, donated $100,000 to create this center in memory of his mother, Caroline, who passed away from cancer when he was a just a teenager.
Schmidt said she has been volunteering in the UM Medical Center at Chestertown for approximately 30 years and now works four hours a week in the infusion clinic.
“When I get home, I know I’ve done something that really matters,” said Schmidt. “I was surprised by this recognition and it makes me think of all the other great volunteers who have donated so much time to the medical center.”
