Dorchester General Hospital Auxiliary Honors Volunteers


 

DGH Auxiliary volunteers were recognized for achieving service milestone at the Auxiliary’s annual luncheon on September 12. Honorees on hand for the occasion were (front row) Mamie Short, Clara Mae Stephens, Barbara Lipe, Nellie Robinson and Linda Aaron; and (back row) Barbara Weiss, Debbie Thomas, Alexandria Anderson-Snell, Joy Loeffler, Peggy Warner and Shirley Shortall.

The Dorchester General Hospital Auxiliary held its general meeting and annual awards luncheon on September 12, 2017. The event, which included the Pets on Wheels luncheon, celebrated a total of 10,431 hours contributed to the Auxiliary and its programs that benefit UM Shore Medical Center at Dorchester.
Members of the Auxiliary recognized for achieving service milestones are:

  • For 250 Hours: Nellie Robinson, Clara Mae Stevenson, Patsy Torossian, Daniel Trentler and Peggy Warner 
  • For 500 hours: Linda Aaron, Shirley Shortall and Suzanne Stitley.
  • For 1,000 hours: Lois Christopher, Barbara Weiss and Joy Loeffler
  • For 2000 hours: Mary Hodgson, Mamie Short and Gloria Whaley
  • For 4000 hours: Alexandria Anderson-Snell
  • For 5000 hours: Pat Wood
  • For 6000 hours: Charlotte Wheatley
  • For 7000 hours: Barbara Lipe
  • For 8000 hours: Normalie Cusack and Debbie Thomas

Also honored was Lucy Phillips, “Volunteer of the Year” for the Robin Hood Shop, and the local Pets on Wheels volunteers who take furry friends to visit patients in area hospitals and skilled nursing facilities.
“An unknown author once said, ‘Volunteers are not paid not because they are worthless but because they are priceless.’ I truly believe our volunteers are priceless and I am honored to be part of such a great organization,” says Diane McCarthy, DGH Auxiliary president.
“Through the dedication and hard work of its many volunteers, the Auxiliary continues be a strong force in the advancement of health care for Dorchester County residents,” says Patti Willis, senior vice president, Strategy and Communications. “Through the Robin Hood Shop and the Hospital Gift Shop, they raise funds that help purchase equipment, furnishings and advanced health care technology, all of which benefit patient care. Through their staffing support and patient escort programs, they provide direct assistance to hospital staff and to patients and their family members.”
The Dorchester General Hospital Auxiliary raises funds to support programs, services, equipment and patient care at UM Shore Medical Center at Dorchester. Fundraising efforts include sales from the Robin Hood Shop, located at 416 High Street in Cambridge, and the Hospitality Shop, located on the first floor of the hospital.
