Cardiac Wellness & Fitness Program Manager Certified in Cardiac Rehabilitation

Innovation-and-Clinical-Integration

Sally Worm, RN, CCRP

Sally Worm, RN, CCRP

Sally Worm, RN, CCRP, program manager for the cardio-pulmonary fitness and wellness program at UM Shore Regional Health, has successfully passed her certification specialty exam. Worm is recognized as a Certified Cardiac Rehabilitation Professional by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR).

“This is a significant accomplishment and important recognition of Sally’s skills and clinical expertise in this area of specialty — emphasizing healthier lifestyle decisions for patients to avoid unnecessary hospitalizations or re-hospitalizations,” said Gary Jones, FACCA, Regional Director of Cardiovascular & Pulmonary Services for UM Shore Regional Health.

Worm joined UM Shore Regional Health as a registered nurse on the UM Shore Medical Center at Easton Telemetry Unit in July, 1995 and transferred to the Center for Cardiac and Pulmonary Fitness and Wellness in February, 1998. In December, 2007, she was promoted to Program Manager and she now provides oversight for the programs at UM Shore Medical Centers at Chestertown, Dorchester and Easton.

Jones commended Worm’s leadership on achieving high standards for the Cardiac and Pulmonary Fitness and Wellness Center.

“Sally took the lead role in seeing that our program was among the first in the country enrolled in the AACVPR Outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation Registry,” a national effort to track patient outcomes and program performance in meeting evidence-based guidelines for secondary prevention of heart and vascular disease, Jones says. “She devotes her time working with a very dedicated staff to provide excellent patient care experiences, which is reflected in our patient satisfaction scores.”

Jones notes that Worm works closely with the medical directors for Cardiac Rehabilitation to ensure compliance with individual patients’ prescriptions and provides referring physicians with regular progress reports on their patients.

In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Worm works closely with the Patient Financial Services staff to assure regulatory compliance and accurate billing and reimbursement, Jones says.

National Wear Red Day® to be Observed by Cardiac Rehab

Team-Strengthaha-2It is a common misconception that heart disease impacts more men than women, however, one in three women will die of heart disease and stroke despite the fact that 80% of cardiac events can be prevented with lifestyle changes and education.

Since 2003, National Wear Red Day® has been observed the first Friday in February to raise awareness about heart disease being the number one killer of women. On February 6, the Cardiac Rehabilitation Departments at Chestertown, Dorchester and Easton will be observing National Wear Red Day® and are encouraging other departments throughout UM Shore Regional Health to join them.
