Captain Jenson Shorter Leads UM SRH Public Safety and Security


Special Police Captain Jenson Shorter has been named regional manager and special police chief, Safety and Security for UM Shore Regional Health.
Shorter had been serving in this capacity on an interim basis since the departure of former regional manager Frank Ford in late June. He has been a member of the UM SRH Safety and Security team since 2010, and previously had served the City of Cambridge Police for nine years.
A certified K-9 police officer, Shorter also is certified as an instructor for multiple law enforcement trainings by organizations including Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and The American Heart Association (AHA), among others. He also has attended numerous police-related trainings conducted by FEMA, DHS, the Maryland State Police, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and various colleges, medical facilities and law enforcement agencies.
Since beginning his law enforcement career in 1995, Shorter has received many commendations for exceptional service, including recognition from the State of Maryland Governor’s Office for MADD, DUI and community policing efforts. During his tenure with UM SRH, he has been named Officer of the Year and Supervisor of the Year. He presently serves as a regional law enforcement coordinator for Maryland Special Olympics and is a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Elks Lodge In Cambridge.
