Breast Cancer Awareness Month Plans Announced


UM Shore Regional Health will observe Breast Cancer Awareness month with various activities throughout the month of October, all aimed at increasing awareness of breast cancer and how it can be best detected, prevented and treated.
According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in women. It is estimated that more than 246,000 women were diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in 2016.
Some of the planned activities at UM Shore Regional Health include the following:

  • Pink Ribbon Hanging & Tree Lighting: Thursday, October 5, 4 p.m., UM Shore Medical Center at Easton, front circle. Cancer Center volunteers and staff will hang pink ribbons on the evergreen tree in honor of the breast cancer patients treated this year by the Center. The tree will be lit with pink lights and serve as a month-long reminder of the friends, neighbors and loved ones whose lives have been touched by breast cancer. 
  • Breast Cancer Outreach: Come by the hospital cafeterias to talk to Cancer Center outreach volunteers and learn about breast cancer.
    UM SMC at Easton Cafeteria, Friday, October 20,10:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.
    UM SMC at Dorchester Cafeteria, Tuesday, October 23, 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
    UM SMC at Chestertown Memorial Corridor (between the inpatient unit and the cafeteria): Wednesday, October 11, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
  • Screenings for Breast Cancer: Screenings for breast cancer will be conducted at the Clark Comprehensive Breast Center on Wednesdays, October 18 and October 25, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.. To make an appoint for this screening, please call 410-822-9400.
