Bedell, Seiler Named to Regional Positions at UM SRH

 
Two UM Shore Regional Health team members are in new regional positions, according to Williiam H. Huffner, MD, senior vice president, Medical Affairs and chief medical officer.
Jean Seiler,clinical quality coordinator in the Quality Management Department, has assumed additional responsibilities as regional patient safety officer for UM SRH. In this new role she remains a member of the Quality Management Department while assuming all duties of the patient safety officer, including her key participation in Patient Safety Rounds and serving TJC’s Chapter Champion for the patient safety systems and the National Patient Safety Goals. She also serves as the UM SRH liaison with the State Office of Health Care Quality and will be our representative on the UMMS Patient Safety Officer Committee.
Seiler also will lead the charge in the continued development and implementation of the new Shore Regional Health Daily Safety Huddles, furthering a “just culture” in our reaction to adverse events, and will also develop an awareness campaign about patient safety.  She will remain the local lead on several University of Maryland clinical quality improvement teams.  She is currently a member of the Shared Nursing Global Council, representing performance improvement and will continue these important endeavors as well.
Nancy Bedell, who has served as regional director, Employee Health and Wellness for UM SRH since 2015, has transitioned into the new position of regional director of Care Coordination. In this new capacity, she will advance Shore Regional Health’s patient centered care coordination and population health initiatives.
Bedell has extensive experience in case management, having previously served as executive director of Clinical Integration at Newark University Hospital, where she was responsible for case management, social work, patient flow and patient experience. In that capacity, she took the lead in developing transition programs to reduce readmissions and support population health.
Her prior experience also includes serving as vice president of Medical and Network Management for Partners in Care. In that position, she was responsible for promoting quality, cost effective care along the continuum, which included maintenance of an effective physician network, the development of member programs and  coordinating case management and utilization programs for St. Peter’s Hospital employees.
