Annual PPD Testing No Longer Required for Vast Majority of UM Shore Regional Health Team Members

Team-Strength
Unless your work at UM Shore Regional Health is designated as “high risk” for exposure to  tuberculosis, you are no longer required to have the PPD test done annually, Nancy Bedell, regional director, Employee Health Services, has announced.
Team members identified as high risk include respiratory therapists, pulmonary medicine and nurses who assist with bronchoscopies.
All new hires, Auxiliary volunteers & physicians will be given the PPD as part of their initial onboarding, but annual retesting no longer is required.
The change was made because the Center for Disease Control (CDC) no longer recommends widespread testing. According to CDC guidelines, UM Shore Regional Health is a “low risk facility” for tuberculosis transmission.
Bedell is quick to point out that any staff member or volunteer who  desires the PPD can make an appointment for testing by contacting Employee Health Services, 410-822-1000,  ext. 5549, or nancy.bedell@umm.edu.
