Above & Beyond

The following reports from patients and family members reaffirm our staff’s commitment
to putting our patients’ needs first. Please take a minute to say THANKS!

Reported by Captain Tom Gray, UM SRH Security:
During a family emergency at UM Shore Medical Center at Dorchester, Capt. Jenson Shorter stepped up and volunteered to stay with a child so her mother could go into the Emergency Room to be with and support her family. Capt. Shorter spent approximately 90-minutes with her talking, playing and eating lunch. Outstanding job!
This act of kindness was noticed by several staff members. A few of the comments that I heard were: “I see Jenson is using his HEART training” and  “Jenson should be the first person in the HEART Hall of Fame.”

I am writing to thank you for my very good experience in UM Shore Medical Center at Easton and the Requard Center.
I arrived at the ER, by ambulance, at about midnight Saturday night, June 24th with a fractured hip.  As best as I can recall, within hours I was settled in Room 373; and then was in surgery by 9am, Sunday.  Dr. Szczukowski performed a femoral neck fracture repair, installing what I understand are three very stunning “bling” screws.
By Wednesday the 28th I was headed to the Requard Center (Room 7B, I believe) for more great care and incredible rehab.  I was discharged Friday, July 7th. The purpose of my letter is to remind you of the very high quality of your staff, if such a reminder is needed.  I met and was attended to by many staff, at all levels, during my 13 days & nights — two of whom are addressees on this letter, Drs. Wills and DeShields.
With no exception, whether hospital official, doctor, nurse, technician, housekeeping, Food Service, etc.. every staff member was highly-professional, both in their technical knowledge and skill AND in their interaction, care, attention to me and my needs.  There were many times when I truly thought I was receiving “private care.” Thanks to all staff who cared for me during my stay at the hospital and Rehab Center.

When I came to the Regional Sleep Disorders Center at UM Shore Medical Center at Easton for my sleep study, I was expecting a clinical environment; however, the nurse on duty was very pleasant and kind, the furnishings of the room were comfortable, the atmosphere of room was inviting and a blanket was furnished request.
